ABOUT

My Work

I design and create custom built-in cabinetry and furniture in my solar powered studio in Fairfield County, Connecticut.   My emphasis is the use of native Northeastern wood species as well as the many types of beautiful reclaimed material available.  I work closely with my clients to create original renderings, or build directly from a designer’s plans.  In an era of mass produced, often temporary furnishings, I utilize traditional construction methods that favor longevity and integrity in the finished piece.

My Story

I became captivated by wood in my youth.  It might have been childhood days spent searching the lakeshore for sculpted driftwood, or that summer in my teens admiring the rustic wooden interiors of centuries old buildings in Scandinavia.  These encounters stirred in me a sense of intrigue and passion for all the ways wood could be transformed.

As a studio arts major in college I focused on woodworking which led to an apprenticeship with a furniture maker.   Following this, I served as project manager at a large cabinet shop in Stamford, CT,  and, for a time, installed elaborate English kitchens throughout the country.  In 1992 I gathered inspiration from these experiences and started my own business creating custom cabinetry and furniture.  Running an intentionally small shop allows me to personally focus on the unique needs of each client, whether the project is a small table or a home library.  I enjoy the collaborative process and visits from my clients, where details of a work-in-progress, or an up-coming project can be discussed.
